Tell me something, oh 5 million+ Californians. Since May 2008, has your marriage felt invalidated? Have your children come home with books that say "The Prince and the Prince"? Has anyone even WRITTEN a book called that? Can you tell me why I have a basic right and my friends don't? Did any of you actually research what Proposition 8 spoon-fed you? I challenge you to name a single person who has learned about marriage in a public school. Name one.

are destroying the sanctity of marriage, and Britney Spears, with her 16 hour shotgun marriage in Vegas is not? Is my great-uncle, who has been living with his partner for as long as I can remember, in fact living in sin? How is my love for my boyfriend any different than Kenny's love for his? Do you honestly think that my friends are going to hell for loving; and that you are getting a special treatment from God for taking away their rights? Wasn't Jesus' mantra "Love thy neighbor" ? Aren't we all human beings?


I realize this note is belated. Try as I might I just cannot understand why any one person, let alone millions of people, would support such a hateful measure. It's completely beyond me.
Proposition 8 is not the voice of the people, of the state, of my generation. I have faith that the next time it is on the ballot, the gap will close and it will get voted down. Equality will happen in our lifetime, I know it, because I will not stop fighting, and neither will the 4,841,736 Californians who voted NO.
